Fleet Maintenance is dedicated to delivering dependable and efficient fleet services that sustain
the City of Manteca’s essential operations. Through structured maintenance programs, regulatory compliance, responsible asset management, and collaborative support of City departments, we ensure public resources are managed with professionalism, integrity, and long-term stewardship.
QUICK SUMMARY
Fleet Maintenance supports the City of Manteca’s essential services by ensuring vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and ready for operation. Our team manages the full lifecycle of the City’s fleet to maintain operational readiness and protect public investment.
DIVISION DESCRIPTION
Fleet Maintenance manages vehicle and equipment lifecycle services including specification development, pre delivery inspections, upfitting, preventive maintenance, safety inspections, diagnostics, repair, coordinated parts management, and responsible asset replacement and surplus. The City’s fleet includes emergency and non-emergency vehicles, solid waste collection vehicles, fire apparatus, light and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, and other specialized equipment that support daily municipal services. Fleet Maintenance manages approximately 500+ vehicles and equipment assets. As the City
continues to grow, the fleet evolves to meet increasing service demands, ensuring our community receives reliable, responsive, and efficient public services. Fleet uses integrated fleet management, telematics, inspection reporting, and fuel tracking systems to support electronic inspections, work order documentation, preventive maintenance scheduling, asset history tracking, lifecycle planning, and electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
FLEET PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Preventive Maintenance and Inspections
- Patrol Vehicles receive service every 3 months or 3,000 miles.
- Light Duty Vehicles are serviced every 6 months or 6,000 miles.
- Commercial and heavy-duty vehicles undergo BIT 90-day Department of Transportation inspections, with engine service performed every other 90-day cycle.
Additional services are performed based on usage and manufacturer recommendations, including transmission, hydraulic, and differential services, Compressed Natural Gas inspections, and California Air Resources Board emissions compliance inspections and reporting. This structured approach helps extend equipment life, reduce unexpected breakdowns, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure operational readiness.
Parts and Inventory Management
High usage maintenance filters, routine service components, and common wear items are stocked in house to support timely repairs and reduce downtime across the fleet.
Fleet prioritizes and supports local businesses whenever possible when procuring parts and services, strengthening community partnerships while ensuring quality and responsiveness.
Emergency Response Readiness
Critical public safety and essential service equipment is prioritized to maintain operational continuity during emergencies and high demand events.
Asset Replacement and Surplus
Vehicles and equipment are evaluated based on age, mileage, condition, and operational performance to determine appropriate replacement timing. When assets reach the end of their service life, Fleet coordinates surplus disposal in accordance with City policy.
